Buffers

In molecular biology, TBE buffer is often used in procedures involving nucleic acids, the most common being electrophoresis. Tris-acid solutions are effective buffers for slightly basic conditions, which keep DNA deprotonated and soluble in water. EDTA is a chelator of divalent cations, particularly of magnesium (Mg2+). As these ions are necessary co-factors for many enzymes, including contaminant nucleases, the role of the EDTA is to protect the nucleic acids against enzymatic degradation. TBE Buffer is provided as a 10X concentrate, after 9:1 dilution with reagent grade water the working solution contains 89mM Tris, 89mM Boric Acid and 2mM EDTA. All our buffers are specially formulated and filtered to ensure that they are of the highest possible quality, longest stability, and guaranteed to be free of contaminants.
